Dark quest from The Witcher 3 was testing ground for The Witcher 4 devs. Developing it, they focused on capturing universe's atmosphere

CD Projekt Red's new developers have been working on an additional quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Now the same people are involved in creating The Witcher 4.

As we were thrilled about the Witcher 4 trailer, the 2nd anniversary of the "next-gen" update for The Witcher 3 also went by. Philipp Weber, the narrative director for the fourth installment of the popular series from CD Project Red, reminded us of this on X.

By the way, the developer revealed an interesting detail. Let's remind that along with the patch, the game received a new quest "In the Eternal Fire's Shadow," which action was set in Velen.

The quest mentioned was developed by new designers and writers at CDPR, who are now working on creating Ciri's adventures. The new quest for the White Wolf was supposed to be a good preparation for them to work on The Witcher 4. It's worth noting that one of the "oldest" quest designers (who has been with the company since the time of the first Witcher) was also a member of the team responsible for the mentioned task. Unfortunately, Weber didn't mention his last name.

We saw the first trailer for The Witcher 4 during The Game Awards 2024, but it didn't even contain an approximate release date. We will probably have to wait a few more years for the game's release, and only then will we find out if the new designers from CD Projekt Red Studio will provide us with stories as good as the additional quest included in the "next-gen" patch for The Witcher 3.

Since we're talking about the fourth installment trailer, during its presentation we learned that it was rendered on an unannounced Nvidia graphics card at that time. It was recently confirmed that it was the GeForce RTX 5090 model, worth at least $1.999.
