The Witcher 4 is the fourth installment in the popular RPG series from CD Projekt RED, based on the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski. The game is a start for a new trilogy and the new protagonist is Ciri who passed the Trial of Grasses and became a female witcher.

The Witcher IV is the fourth main installment of the hit RPG series from the Polish studio CD Projekt Red. At the same time it is the beginning of a new saga set in the world of the best-selling stories and fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.
When is the premiere?
Full scale production of The Witcher 4 started in 2024. Considering the time developers needed to release studio's previous titles, the game's premiere should not be expected earlier than in 2026-2027.
Story: witcher Ciri
The story in The Witcher IV takes place several years after the events depicted in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and the main character this time is Ciri - the adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia (the protagonist of the previous installments). Having passed the Trial of Grasses and mutations, the heroine becomes a fully-fledged witcher and travels the world, making a living by killing monsters for money. She comes to do this in difficult times, in which the "old order is faltering", which benefits certain "dark forces".
Where is Geralt of Rivia?
Geralt of Rivia appears in the game as a non-player character (NPC). After the events of The Witcher 3 and the Blood and Wine expansion, he settled in the Corvo Bianco vineyard in the Toussaint region, in the far south of the Continent.
Open world
The Witcher 4 features the northern part of the Continent - lands found further from the equator than Redania shown in The Witcher 3, therefore colder and potentially less civilized areas. CD Projekt Red studio wanted to showcase areas that we had not visited in any game before. The size of the new regions is comparable to the map from The Wild Hunt.
Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, The Witcher 4 continues the course set by The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 games. Although it retains the general formula from the previous Witcher game, it enriches it with greater freedom characteristic of Cyberpunk. Ciri has more development options than Geralt and she also has more powerful and versatile magical abilities. The same improvements apply to playing as a various types of characters and to available dialogue options or quest solutions.
Multiplayer
Just like the previous installments of the series, The Witcher 4 offers only single-player gameplay.
Unreal Engine 5
Previous works of CD Projekt RED studio operated on the REDengine, but The Witcher 4 was created based on the Unreal Engine 5 technology.
