The Witcher 4 devs used Tolkien's runic alphabet to give us secret message
Fans have deciphered the inscription on a coin presented by the director of The Witcher 4. According to the theory, it refers to the impossibility of escaping one's destiny.
In late November, during the announcement of The Witcher 4 entering its "most intense" development phase, Sebastian Kalemba shared a mysterious image on X, depicting several coins. On one of them, you could see the entrance to the Bauk cave, which we had the opportunity to see in the trailer. Another one contained text that wasn't fully visible and has only now been deciphered.
Kalemba himself helped with this, posting another picture, this time clearly showing the entire coin. It turns out that the words were written in the runic alphabet created by J.R.R. Tolkien for the mythology of Middle-earth. This was confirmed by the director of The Witcher 4, via a response to a comment. So, fans didn't need much time to translate the text, which reads:
Days and nights pass and the blood remains the same.
WARNING: the rest of the text may contain minor plot spoilers.
As you can imagine, this sparked theories that will soon capture the attention of The Witcher fans. The first, rather obvious association is Ciri, who has the Elder Blood flowing in her veins. One of our editors suggested that perhaps the fourth installment would further explore the girl's theme in the context of the Ithlinne's Prophecy and the White Frost that was supposed to be stopped at the end of Wild Hunt.
Fans, on the other hand, point out that one cannot escape fate. A theory has been put forward that Ciri wanted to avoid it by undergoing the Trial of Grasses, thereby suppressing the power that is destined to destroy the world. The writings on the coin could then mean that she didn't fully succeed and that this power still lies dormant within her. It's possible that the main plot of The Witcher 4 will focus around this topic.
