The Most Ambitious Mod for Skyrim May be Overdoing It
We've received a solid dose of information on Skyros, a mod that is supposed to port Westeros from Game of Thrones to the Skyrim engine. The developers have made a lot of progress over the past year, although it's still just a drop in the bucket.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim gives mod creators a lot of room for improvement, and the authors of project Skyros want to take advantage of them all. Yesterday, the Heavy Burns channel on YouTube posted a second video showing the progress of the work.
What is Skyros?
The modification is an insanely ambitious project that aims to move the entire continent of Westeros from Game of Thrones onto the engine of Skyrim Special Edition. What's more, the project is also expected to offer dubbing and a slew of new quests that, depending on the path we take, will lead to several different story endings.
If you want to get acquainted with the genesis of the project, below you will find the first video on Skyros.
Skyros after a year of work
For a year after the publication of the first video on the channel, the project went off the radar. This ended yesterday, when we received the second Development Update.
It presents the progress of 3D modeling. The modders worked not only on the interiors or architecture of castles in Westeros, but also on the designs of weapons and creatures to be found in Skyros. Interestingly, some of the models were borrowed from the developers of the Trial of The Seven Kingdoms project for Mount & Blade II.
In addition, considerable progress has been made in aspects of the story or level design. We learned that the adventure in Skyros we will start in Winterfell, like in Game of Thrones. There are plans to include different races and cultures, and the player himself will be able to choose his path as a messenger, freelancer or servant.
You can check out the progress presentation below. There's really a lot content in it and you can definitely see that the developers had, and still have their hands full.
While the project seems impressive, we can't be sure that the full version will ever see the light of day.
No one wishes Skyros such a turn of events, but the scale of the project at some point may simply overwhelm the developers. Nevertheless, at the moment we are left waiting for more news from the developers.
