Homeworld 3 Devs Prove That They’re Listening to Players. 5 Key Elements Based on Player Feedback Improved on Launch Day
More than a month ago, Blackbird Interactive studio released a demo of the Homeworld 3 strategy. After reviewing player feedback, the developers made many changes to the game.
The devs of Homeworld 3 prove that they didn't release the demo version of this strategy game for nothing. Based on the opinions of many players who checked the demo version of the game during the February Steam Next Fest, the developers decided to introduce changes to 5 key elements of the game.
In today's post on Steam, Blackbird Interactive Studio presented in detail all the fixes that will be included in Homeworld 3 at launch. Below, I described what elements they improved and how they did it.
Controls
Many people believed that the "modern" controls implemented in the demo were unintuitive, and the corrections introduced to this "classic" scheme deviated too far from previous installments of Homeworld. That's why the devs tried to give players as many options as possible to adjust the controls.
Combat
In this case, fans complained about the battles ending too quickly. Some claimed that the space military units appear overly fragile. To somehow remedy this, the developers decided that each ship would have, among others: 30% more durability.
Attack move
Players were given the so-called "attack move" in the Homeworld 3 demo. However, this mechanic didn't work exactly as expected. The developers clarified that the feature wasn't fully prepared when the demo version was released. Nevertheless, it will be possible to issue an attack order from the day of release, and our units will execute it "intelligently, based on the presence of threats," enabling us to give them more advanced commands.
Display and perspective
The devs also referred to the HUD (heads-up display) and NLIPS (Non-Linear Inverse Perspective Scrolling) in their post. The first component consists of the information shown on the screen while playing (such as the map, health bars, etc.), while the second one ensures that ships located at a greater distance from us appear smaller on the map, and those closer to us appear larger.
According to some players, the HUD took up too much space on the screen in the demo. To address this in some way, there will be an option in the settings to customize the size of its crucial elements. NLIPS, on the other hand, was heavily bugged, which caused the function to not work properly. The devs assured that they have already solved the problems associated with it.
War Games Mode
On the day of the Homeworld 3 release, this cooperative mode is expected to offer us a mission with twice as many objectives as in the demo, which, let's remember, had only 4. As the developers report, in the full version of the game we can expect so few objective to complete only in the first mission.

We will wait a little longer to find out how these fixes turned out. After more than 20 years since the release of the previous installment, Homeworld 3 will go on sale on PC on May 13, 2024.
