If you are reading this, you have probably launched Homeworld 3 and would like to learn more about control presents. The game offers 2 of them – Legacy and Modern. It is one of the first choices in the game and is quite important.

Homeworld 3 - Modern vs Legacy Controls Explained

You can pick whichever preset you want, as you can change them later freely. Moreover, you can adjust most of the keybinds, so don’t worry about this choice very much. We have prepared a separate guide with all controls, if you want to check them beforehand.

Modern and Legacy keybinds offer the same functions, so you will not miss anything if you pick one over the other. There is only one function which is not binded automatically in the Modern pattern but is in Legacy – “only select military units while bandboxing”. It is a strange option, as it seems that it is a default function for both modes.

Of course, both controls patters are not the same and differ in a few keys (not all). Some of them works a little bit different, too. For example, in Legacy mode, camera zooming is restricted. To adjust your view, you have to use other keys more. On the other hand, Modern type allows to zoom without any boundaries.

To sum up. if you have played Homeworld 2, and remember its keybinings, it may be better for you to pick Legacy option, as it is a mode for “old” fans. However, if you are accustomed to modern games and their controls, you may want to start with Modern, as it will be more intuitive for you. For more useful tips, you should go to our guide.
