The Day Before is Real; Generates a Lot of Interest, but Even More Criticism [Update #2]
The Day Before debuted in early access on Steam And so far it's getting mostly negative reviews. Some players can't log on to the servers. However, many have managed to do so, and the game is currently being watched by nearly half a million people on Twitch.
Update #2
The Day Before has received a second hotfix. Patch 1.0.2 improves the performance of the game and network code (although many players continue to complain about the optimizations), increases the frequency of infected appearances, cracks down on item duplication and improves shooting in both TPP and FPP modes. There are, of course, more changes - you can read the full list here.
What changes can we expect in the future? Players hope, for example, for ultrawide monitor support and making the infected more challenging opponents.
Update #1
Currently The Day Before can boast only 15% positive reviews on Steam (18% according to SteamDB). Players criticize the game for various, often grotesque bugs, server problems and general performance. Many of them declare that they have returned the game. The number of active players has fallen into the neighborhood of 10,000.
The developers also released the first hotfix. It removes the full servers from the list to make navigation easier, and also fixes a bug with the door in Leonard's room. The developers are monitoring the situation and will announce further fixes.
Original message (December 7)
"After five years of blood, sweat and tears" studio Fntastic has released survival MMO The Day Before in the Early Access program on Steam. As if answering the question posed in the title of our message from earlier, one can conclude that we are indeed dealing with a real game. But is it a good game?
For the moment it's difficult to make a definite judgment. Although the first reviews have appeared on Valve's platform, mostly their authors spent with The Day Before only a few, a dozen or several dozen minutes. Despite this, negative reviews prevail - they account for 79% of the 444 total.
There is no shortage of complaints about the servers. Many players complain that they cannot log in. In addition, it is noted that for users from Europe - or at least part of it - only Asian and North American servers are available.
Those who managed to play, meanwhile, draw attention to poor optimization, pointing out that The Day Before "runs terribly even on a top-of-the-line PC." Interestingly, however, the game is currently running on the computers of more than 31.5 players on Steam.
Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the game by Fntastic arouses great interest. At the time when I write these words, broadcasts of it are watched on Twitch by more than 481 thousand people. If you want to see what The Day Before is, you best join them - a selection of streams can be found here.
It's also worth mentioning that along with the game's debut in early access, we learned its price - $39.99.
