The long-awaited Patch 8 (unfortunately the last one so big) for Baldur’s Gate 3 is launching today. However, this is only a testing stage and access to the updates will be available only to selected players for now. Who among you would like to try out the new content earlier, you can still sign up for testing through the studio's website (however, this doesn't guarantee participation).

Test details

What can interested players expect? First of all, cross-play mode. To try it out, you need to go to the Options menu and enable cross-platform mode. Then, in the multiplayer game menu, you need to create a cross-play lobby. The number of mods installed cannot exceed 100 when the game host is a PC player - otherwise a bug will occur.

Alongside the latest patch, a feature for Xbox Series S users will be introduced - split screen. Owners of this console, as well as XSX, can start testing the patch through the Xbox Insider Hub app. All players participating in the test were asked to use the bug reporting form to help devs fix any potential errors before the official release of Patch 8.

The developers also provided a list of problems that haven't yet been solved at this time. One of them is the issue of compatibility of one of the more popular mods - ImpUI. So if you are using it, the developers recommend turning it off during testing. Photo mode, on the other hand, causes problems when using Vulkan, and some keyboard shortcuts and controller buttons may not work after using merchant services.

Murderous elevator eliminated

However, this is not the end of the changes - Patch 8, like every major update, also introduces many improvements to Baldur’s Gate 3. First and foremost, the hated bug that caused a fatal fall from the moving platform in Gauntlet of Shar has finally been fixed.

Another improvement is a change where, after successfully passing the passive Perception test, the discovered item will be marked on the map. Furthermore, neutral non-playable characters will now not become hostile towards our characters when they accidentally find themselves, for instance, on an electrified surface left after a recent battle.

A lot of attention was also devoted to Minthara and the entire Second Act. The dark elf received several new dialogue options, some romantic scenes have been improved in terms of mocap, and now we can also see merchant locations on the map (if they aren't hostile towards us).

These are still not all the changes - the full list will be made available at the time of the official patch release. At the moment, there isn't a specific date provided, but we can anticipate that the wait won't be too long.
