When can we expect Baldur's Gate 4 announcement? What does the future hold for the series? „We never shy down from a challenge,” brand owners say

Baldur's Gate 3 was released over a year and a half ago and while many players are still enjoying this brilliant RPG, Hasbro needs to decide what to do next with the brand. Larian Studios doesn't intend to create another game in the universe and instead has taken on something completely new.

Perhaps, however, we won't have to wait long for the first announcement regarding the future of the brand. In a conversation with IGN, Hasbro's Senior Vice President, Dan Ayoub, conveyed that the company is in contact with "many people interested in Baldur’s Gate" and this topic will be discussed in the near future.

Unfortunately, he didn't confirm whether this is a full-fledged continuation of the series or some side project. He admitted that we will have to wait a bit for the release of the fourth installment, but ultimately he wants it to be made.

It's somewhat of an unenviable position. I mean, we're not in a hurry. Right? That's the thing, we're going to take a very measured approach... We've got a lot of plans, a lot of different ways to go about it. We're starting to think about, okay, yeah, we're ready to start dipping toes a little bit and talking about a few things. And I think, in really short order, like I said, again, not to over-tease that point, we're going to have some other things to talk about around that.

Ayoub admitted that the expectations for Baldur’s Gate 4 and the pressure associated with them are enormous, which should not be a surprise, considering the success of BG3. Moreover, it also applies to other projects related to the D&D brand. However, the developer doesn't intend to give up and treats it as a challenge.

I'm never one to shy down from a challenge. And I think anything that forces us to raise our creative bar, and developers love to have a high bar to go after, and I think we've actually seen the team push some really interesting ideas that they're like, 'Okay, we need to raise our bar. We need to go bigger on this.' And things like that. So, I think that's our hope, right? We would keep raising the bar and everyone just tries to go a little higher.

The beloved cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 is ready to return to the series, although not unconditionally. The head of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, also shared his advice for future developers dealing with continuation.
