Stronghold Remaster Devs Show How They Overhaul the Iconic Game
New video footage from Stronghold: Definitive Edition has hit the web, showing the process of improving graphical elements in the upcoming remaster.
Firefly has released a new video from Stronghold: Definitive Edition, the refreshed version of the iconic 2001 strategy game.
The video lasts eleven minutes and is the first episode in a series showing the development process of the project. In the opening material of the series, the developers focused on visual aspects. The game is expected to retain the gameplay mechanics of the original, while improving the visuals and interface. The devs put a lot of effort into making the new, more detailed elements, preserving the specific style of the 2001 version.
The developers did not start from scratch. About 60-70% of the textures and models from the original were preserved, so the developers were able to use them as a starting point for the improved versions. The remaining objects had to be created from scratch.
All sprite animations were also improved - it was necessary, because those in the original were made at a modest 16 frames per second. This does not include only characters, but also, for example, fire and siege machines, which are expected to look much more natural in the remaster.
Recall that Stronghold: Definitive Edition is heading exclusively for PC. The game will be released on November 7 this year.
In August, the game's first demo was made available for a short time. Unfortunately, it had many technical issues. Tomorrow, as part of the new Steam Next Fest, a second demo version is expected to be released, offering numerous fixes and improvements.
