Stronghold: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the iconic 2001 RTS game with many visual improvements and additional content. While playing, you expand your castle, fight enemies and strengthen your power. Unfortunately, the title is not free of bugs. In this guide you will learn how to fix the black screen when launching Stronghold Definitive Edition.

Black Screen in Stronghold Definitive Edition

Some players notice that after launching Stronghold Definitive Edition and entering a name for their character a black screen appears, due to which you cannot see the game at all. If you also encountered such a problem, go into the Nvidia Control Panel and disable Vsync.

Unfortunately, this solution does not seem to work for people with AMD graphics cards. Fortunately, the developer is aware of the problem, as reported on the game's forum on Steam. It is therefore possible that a patch removing the black screen issue will be released in the near future.

Additional solution

There is another way to get rid of the black screen, but it can only work for people who have a Windows system with the letter "N" in its name, meaning one that is devoid of multimedia software.

1. In the case of Windows 10 N Go to Start, Settings, Apps, Optional Features, and then Add a Feature. Now simply find the Media Feature Pack.
2. In Windows 11 N go to Start, Settings, Apps, Optional Apps. Select View Features, and then Media Feature Pack.

After using one of the above methods you need to restart your computer and see if the black screen has stopped appearing.
