New Leaks on Steampunk RPG From Wasteland 3 Devs
Project Cobalt is probably the working name of one of the two games on which inXile Entertainment is working. The project is to be a first-person RPG set in a steampunk universe and will be released in a few years.
We've known for a long time that inXile Entertainment is working on two new games. There were rumors that one of these projects was to be a first-person RPG set in a steampunk fantasy universe. Now they have been confirmed to some extent by Jez Corden, host of the Xbox Two podcast. In his latest episode (see below) the creator confidently described the US studio's unannounced game as Project Cobalt.
Interestingly, it was the working name of the new game that Corden seemed most confident in. He left the issues of first-person perspective and steampunk universe in the realm of conjecture. However, it seems that Jez Corden knows more about the inXile's new project than he wants to (or can) say. Moreover, his "guesses" coincide with the rumors, which have been circulating the web for a long time.
What else we probably know about Project Cobalt? The title is to be a new IP powered by Unreal Engine 5, whose capabilities we saw on the recent demo. The video looks very promising - it's worth reminding here that some time ago Brian Fargo, head of inXile Entertainment, was excited about the visuals, design and scenario of the title created by the studio. The developer did not hide, however, that we will have to wait a long time for news about the new game.
This would mean everything is coming together: Project Cobalt is a first-person RPG set in a steampunk fantasy universe, probably at a very early stage of work, which will give rise to a new series. That's a lot of ideas for one game, so it's worth waiting for their official confirmation. Nevertheless, the direction that inXile Entertainment may have taken seems more than interesting. Let's hope it will be the same in the case of the studio's second project.
