Smoking Xbox Series X and Other Issues; Microsoft Investigates [Update #2]
With the release of Xbox Series X, the first information about mechanical failures appeared. The hottest (literally) thing right now is the case of smoking console. Microsoft is investigating the subject, and we've checked what other problems the users are facing.
Update #2
A dozen or so minutes of video prepared by Polish youtuber Kuba Klawiter appeared on the web. He contacted the author of the first "smoking" video and decided to enable him to present the whole situation with the fuming Xbox Series X from his perspective. From the video we learn that the author of the original tweet does not smoke (not even e-cigarettes), so the accusations he faced during the last few dozen hours were, in his opinion, wrong.
Based on what appears in the material, we can conclude that after the initial activity, the Polish branch of Xbox did nothing but post the tweet, in which it discourages users from blowing smoke from e-cigarettes into Xbox Series X consoles (you will find it in the previous update).
The matter is evolving, so probably in the next few days we will see some continuation.
Update #1
Microsoft has yet to release an official position on smoking consoles, but the company published a Twitter post asking users not to let smoke from e-cigarettes into the console.
This may suggest that the high-profile case from Poland we described earlier is nothing more than a fake created to get some publicity. That said, we should not be hasty with the final judgement.
Original message
- After the launch of Xbox Series X, the first information about console failures appeared.
- The most famous was a case of malfunctioning device that conquered social media.
- It is being handled and examined by the Polish branch of Microsoft.
- In addition, there are further reports of problems plaguing Xbox Series X.
First reports of failures of Xbox Series X surfaced on the web. The most famous case concerns a smoking console, which (allegedly) broke down on polish Twitter user Arek Adamowicz, who a few hours ago released a recording in which he presents Xbox Series X and the smoke coming out of the console.
"@XboxPL I've had an unpleasant surprise right after firing up my new device... The interface made it only as far as the Menu and after a minute or two I saw some smoke... Can I expect a replacement console in this case? Thanks in advance!"
There were quick voices that it was an arranged set-up. Polish branch of Microsoft approached the matter with professionalism, contacted the author and took action to determine and solve the problem.
We also received an official comment from Microsoft's press office:
"We take all reports concerning the safety of Microsoft's products seriously. Each of these products meets or exceeds industry standards. We are currently analyzing the situation."
When browsing social media, we may encounter similar problems, albeit in slightly smaller scope.
However, we cannot be overly trusting towards every Twitter entry. Of course, the launch of each new hardware is always at risk of causing some problems (see below). That said, it's just as easy to fake the alleged problems, as Xbox Studio user presented on Twitter.
According to the user, all he needs to do is take the e-cigarette, collect the smoke and blow it under the console, then turn on the device to suck in air and let it pass through the cooling system.
Failures of Xbox Series X are a fact
However, the above doubts do not deny that some users have problems with their Xbox Series X consoles. All confirmed hardware failures have been collected on Reddit. What are people struggling with?
The console doesn't want to close disc tray (a similar case here):
Fan noise problems in Xbox X Series X:
Add to that the Quick Resume option that doesn't work in many titles, problems with running multiple games, image artifacts during play, consoles overheating and random freezing of games, in this case Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. We could continue the list for a long time, but all you have to do is look at the aforementioned thread on Reddit. Perhaps you can find a solution there, if you're unlucky and your console is also encountering some problems. There is also a compilation of all the problems so far in an accessible video form.
We would also like to remind that tomorrow the PS5 is debuting in the US and Japan, among others, so there is a good chance that there will be information about possible faults of the latest Sony console.
