How to unlock characters?

In Ship of Fools you can unlock 10 characters. Each of them has a unique perk that affects the gameplay. Some characters are available from the very beginning, but most of them have to be unlocked by fulfilling a specific task / goal.

1. Betty - The player's character has to be kestunned or discarded 50 times.
2. Cluck - this character is gained when you fire your weapon with any type of egg ammo.
3. Finley - you will gain access to this character when you recycle a plank at the stage after defeating Tentacles, Shadow of the Undergrowth.
4. Gill - obtainable after you hit all the barrels and boxes on the islands during the escape.
5. Hink - A character available from the very beginning.
6. Krillstoph - when you visit Shark Alter, you will get this character.
7. Lotte - the goal you must meet to unlock this character is to complete any level without receiving any damage.
8. Quill - character will be unlocked when you defeat an enemy named Eye, of the Storm.
9. Shelbie - most characters require you to do something to unlock them. In the case of Shelbie, you cannot shoot cannons during the encounter (which you must successfully complete).
10. Todd - A character available from the very beginning.

Perks of each character

The characters in Ship of Fools are not only different skins, but also unique skills that can significantly affect gameplay. Below is a description of the perk assigned to each character:

1. Betty - when she is set down or discarded, she falls into Rage Mode, which causes you to be able to shoot much faster for a short period of time and have an increased chance of critical hits.
2. Cluck - lay eggs during encounters. Their types are random, but nevertheless serve as additional ammunition for players' weapons.
3. Finley - gain a random reward on repair, such as money or harpoons.
4. Gill - when playing this character, when you hit an enemy with a harpoon, you will not lose it.
5. Hink - Splash DMG and effects on critical hits.
6. Krillstoph - perk will enable you to defeat enemies faster, as his Paddle attack combo is much faster than other characters.
7. Lotte - Regenerate ammo over time on cannons you load during encounters.
8. Quill - Each successful attack will cause Quill to deal more and more damage to enemies.
9. Shelbie - It enhances both the damage and speed of projectiles fired from cannons.
10. Todd - his paddle attack combo is stronger and much faster than other characters.
