Ship of Fools

Ship of Fools is an action game with roguelike elements. It was developed by an independent studio Fika Productions and published by Team17.

Plot

Ship of Fools takes us on a journey to a fantastic world. When the lighthouse, which provided security for the inhabitants of the Archipelago, collapsed and a powerful storm appeared on the horizon, it seemed that this land was already lost. All hope is in the creatures known as Fools, who are the only ones brave enough (or foolish enough) to sail out into the sea despite the raging storm. Now it is on their shoulders to save the Archipelago from the oncoming threat.

Game mechanics

In Ship of Fools we observe the action from a top-down view. Game offers us various characters, each of them has individual skills. We can explore the vast archipelago quite freely, setting new objectives on the map covered with a grid of hexes. "Quite", because the raging storm constantly changes its location, cutting off access to some sectors and revealing others to us.

We travel across the sea on board a small ship - the Stormstrider. The boat is equipped with cannons, which serve us to defend against aggressive sea creatures. Skirmishes are dynamic, and during them we have to work hard to conduct effective fire, while repairing damage caused by enemies. In addition, we regularly disembark to explore the islands encountered along the way and acquire unique items and artifacts. The latter provide us with various buffs, such as spread reduction or additional ammunition, which increase our combat potential and thus - the chances of success of our mission.

Game modes

Ship of Fools can be played solo, but the game spreads its wings in co-op mode (online or shared screen). In co-op mode, players can share tasks with each other, which is especially important during battles where a lot of action takes place on screen.

Technical aspects

Ship of Fools features colourful, hand-drawn graphics in a pleasant to the eye, clear style.
