Refreshed RTX 2060 Could be More Powerful Than Expected
New rumors about the refreshed GeForce RTX 2060 have surfaced, and in addition to more VRAM, the number of CUDA cores will also increase.
We have already mentioned the rumors about the refreshed RTX 2060s. According to these reports, the chip will debut on December 7, and the only improvement is supposed to be the doubling of the amount of VRAM (from 6 GB to 12 GB). However, new rumors suggest that the modifications will be deeper.
According to one source new-old GPUs - in addition to the aforementioned more VRAM - will have more CUDA cores. Their number is to increase from 1920 to 2176 (the same as in RTX 2060 Super). TDP will also be higher, at 184W (the Super version consumes 175W). The clock in boost mode is expected to be 1650 Mhz, while the memory bus will be 192-bit.
It is interesting that earlier rumors did not suggest any changes other than an increase in the amount of VRAM. The latest reports put the revamped 2060 very close to the Super version in terms of performance. It also appears that the difference between the RTX 3060 and the "new" RTX 2060 will not be that big after all. This throws an interesting light on the balancing of Nvidia's products, as the upcoming RTX 3050 may turn out to be weaker than the revamped RTX 2060. However, gamers are mainly hoping for sufficient availability and affordable prices.
