Ranked in Diablo 2 Resurrected Coming Early Next Year
In early 2022, Diablo 2 Resurrected will receive an update to version 2.4. It will introduce ranked games, new Horadric Cube schemes and runic words, improve character class balance, and buff mercenaries.
- Diablo 2 Resurrected will receive new runic words and Horadric Cube schematics in the next update;
- There will also be changes to the character balance and rune combinations;
- Update 2.4 is also the start of ranked games.
Vicarious Visions revealed the changes that Update 2.4 will bring to Diablo 2 Resurrected. It's scheduled for release early next year and will come after an early beta on the public test server. Apart from the start of the ranked ladder we will get new runic words, class balance and changes in mercenaries.
Ranked play will be divided into four ladders:
- Standard (up to act IV);
- Hardcore (up to act IV);
- Standard Expansion;
- Hardcore Expansion.
Just like in the original, sessions in this mode will offer unique runic words that will not be available in the normal game. After the end of the ranked season, players who have managed to assemble these runic words will be transferred to the non-ranked version of the game. At this point the developers are leaning towards one season lasting four months, but the feedback from the community, which will have a decisive influence on this aspect of gameplay, is being closely followed.
Vicarious Visions will also introduce changes to the balance of character classes. This will be the first such modification since 2010, when patch 1.13c was released for Diablo II. The devs mainly mentioned improving selected builds instead of weakening the most popular ones. Buffs will be applied to melee Amazons, Barbarians using throwing skills and Paladins using offensive auras. Builds based on summoning (Necromancer, Druid) will also be significantly strengthened..
Diablo 2 Resurrected will also add new runic words and Horadric Cube schematics, some of which will enable us to upgrade our kit items, giving us more character customization options. Current in-game rune combinations will also be enhanced. Furthermore, the devs will also be improving mercenaries to have them offer more support and variety (the starting point is the fact that everyone choses the mercenary from Act 2).
Game designer Robert Gallerani will talk about the changes and innovations, along with a well-known member of the Diablo community, content creator MrLlamaSC. Today, the latter's channel on Twitch will host a special broadcast at 11 am PT.
