CD Projekt RED is a sizable studio with ambitious goals. The developers are currently working on a number of projects, such as the Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, which will debut on September 26. It also has other projects in the pipeline, such as projects Polaris (The Witcher), Orion (Cyberpunk) or Hadar, the latter intended to be a brand new IP in the developer's portfolio. Now the studio has decided that it employs too many people and will say goodbye to about a hundred of them.

CD Projekt RED will lay off about 9% of its employees

Adam Kicinski, head of CD Projekt RED, published an open message, in which he announced that the company will say goodbye to about a hundred employees who would not be working on any project next year. This represents about 9% of all staff at CD Projekt, because, as we reported in April, there were 1292 people working at the company at that point.

Adam Kicinski also wrote that the layoffs will take place across a time period - they will be implemented by the first quarter of 2024 - and the company is announcing it now so that employees will have time to adjust to the new situation. In addition, those who will be laid off are to receive severance pay.

Adam Kicinski also announced the company's strategy to allow for the most effective possible development of "the best RPGs."

"To meet our own high expectations and ambitions to create the best role-playing games, we not only want to have the best people but also the right teams. What we mean by that is having teams that are built around our projects’ needs; teams that are more agile and more effective. At this point in time, we’re certain that for CD PROJEKT RED to grow, we need to be consistent in implementing that approach.."
