Project L, the fighting game with characters from LoL has been known of for a couple of years now. Until now, however, it has not been revealed what business model the developers will use for the upcoming game.
Now information on this subject has been shared by one of the developers from Riot Games. Tom Cannon revealed that the game will be a free-to-play title.
Riot Games with another F2P game
This fact was shared by Tom Cannon in the latest video on Project L. According to the developer the decision to use the free-to-play model is related to the mindset at the studio. The developers are expected to do everything to reduce the number of restrictions standing in the way of playing their title.
Of course, this should not come as a surprise to players familiar with other works of Riot Games. Most of the studio's leading titles are just free-to-play games. We can also guess what methods of monetization we will be dealing with.
Tom Cannon, by the way, also touched on this issue. The developer stated that microtransactions will be designed with respect to the time and player wallets. So, at least on paper, they should not be too intrusive.
The developer also revealed that work on Project L is proceeding in the right direction. Some segments of the game have already been completed, and the developers working on them have been delegated to other tasks, such as character development and community features, for example.
Meet Illaoi
The developers also presented another character that will appear in Project L. This is well known to LoL fans Illaoi, the Priestess of Kraken.
When designing her character, the developers had to redefine what kind of heroine she actually is. Among other things, we're talking about her character, which is also to be reflected in her external appearance.
So in the end, the developers decided to create a character whose stature was inspired by female athletes specializing in weightlifting.
At the same time, Illaoi is supposed to be a decidedly different character from the rest of the champions available in the game. Actually each of the heroes will offer a different style of gameplay, which is supposed to make every player find something for him or herself.
How all this will work out in reality, however, we will find out only after the game's release, which seems quite distant for now.
Fortunately later this year Riot Games will share with us another dose of information on Project L. So we will know more and more about the game as time goes by.
