Patch Broke CoD MW2; Devs Advise Redownloading 200GB of Data
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players are suffering from a bug that prevents them from joining the game. Interestingly, the developers' proposed solution to this problem is to reinstall the game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 recently received an update that was supposed to fix a number of ills plaguing the title and add a new variation on the Shipment map. As it turns out, however, the patch introduced further bugs. One of them - Dev Error 11557 - proved particularly troublesome. Interestingly, the solution to this problem suggested by the developer is to reinstall the game. This is all the more problematic since we are talking about a game weighing more than 200 GB..
What does Dev Error 11557 actually do? One simple thing. It appears when you launch the game and prevents you from entering it. Thus, it makes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 unplayable.
The developers are investigating the matter for now, and at this point suggest that the bug may be caused by a file error. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the game and reinstall it. There's no denying that this can be problematic for a game of this size. Not everyone has fast enough Internet to make the download painless - some probably have to expect to lose a whole day downloading data (or even longer).
So the only thing left to do is to wait for Infinity Ward to fix this bug. When this will happen, however - is unknown.
