New Weapons and Quests Coming to New World; Patches Promised Not to Break the Game

New World is in for some big changes. Amazon Games announced new weapons, quests and updates that will not introduce more bugs to the gameplay.

In a nutshell:
  • Amazon Games has released a 1.5-hour video in which the developers discuss changes planned for New World.
  • The upcoming patches will be bigger and more thoroughly tested;
  • At least two new weapons will appear in the game: the blunderbuss and the greatsword.
  • Expeditions will receive enemy modifiers.

Amazon Games has released a 1.5 hour video (below) outlining plans for New World's development. The developers referred to the issue of improving the game's technical condition and announced changes in the delivery of future patches. There were also some interesting facts about the new weapons that are about to be added to the game.

At the very beginning of the material, studio head Rich Lawrence admitted that previous attempts to fix the title with updates often ended up in introducing new issues. Developers assured that they will change the approach and from now on patches will be more thoroughly tested before release.

"Yes, bugs were a big problem. We've released 19 patches since the launch, which is a dizzying pace. We wanted to balance the new features as best we could. However, we discovered that we had some limitations. We wanted to do it all too quickly. From now on we will focus more on testing. We will do more of that and do it better. We will make sure that the update is truely ready for release. It's not that we didn't do it before, but we learned some things. (...) We will focus on releasing fewer fixes, but they will be more significant. Expect bigger changes from now on, which we will start delivering in a better technical condition," said Rich Lawrence.

A good portion of the conversation is devoted to the new content coming to New World. Players should expect the introduction of modifiers for enemies within expeditions. Thanks to them, some enemies can, for example, explode and deal area damage when killed. The good news is the planned addition of new weapons. We'll get our hands on the blunderbuss. Like the musket, it is a firearm, but effective at short to medium range. It was also revealed that work is underway on the greatsword, which at the request of fans will also appear in New World. The devs do not exclude the addition of daggers (and other types of weapons), but we should not expect them in the near future.

"The new weapons will be coming soon. When you think about the musket, it seems to be a more strategic weapon. It has a longer range, it's not rapid-fire. But when you talk about the blunderbuss, you think of something more explosive and even a little more chaotic. (...) It is definitely a much more dynamic firearm. It's more of a short range tool of destruction and it will work really well in tandem with a melee weapon, maybe even with an staff. So the blunderbuss will definitely be an interesting addition, offering a variety of uses," said Dave Hall, responsible for the combat system, among other things.

From the conversation we also learned what players can expect in terms of quests. Rob Chestney, responsible for the story layer, revealed that the team will soon be finishing the first chapter of the story and will be updating and adding missions. The fast travel system will also be changed. Its price will be reduced and the developers will add more spirit shrines, while making them visible on the map, even if they have not yet been discovered.
