New Game From Wasteland 3 Devs is to Refresh the RPG Genre
inXile Entertainment is working on a next-gen RPG that is expected to stir up a lot in the genre.
We've learned a little bit new about the new project of inXile Entertainment,. the studio known for, among other things, Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, The Bard's Tale IV and Wasteland 3.
- We learned about the existence of the project from job offers posted by the company. This is traditionally an excellent source of information about unannounced productions.
- The project is described as "a next-gen RPG"..
- The game uses a new for the studio, "ambitious" license and is expected to "renew the RPG genre."
- Most likely, the gameis being developed on Unreal Engine 5, as inXile Entertainment is looking for, among others, people with experience working with the aforementioned technology from Epic Games.
It is intriguing that the studio's next game will be based on a license. To date, the team has mainly focused on creating new brands and developing series that its founder, Brian Fargo, previously a co-creator at Interplay. The exception to this rule was Torment: Tides of Numenera from 2017, which was set in a world created for a pen&paper RPG.
We can expect this undisclosed project to be much larger in scale than anything previously developed by inXile Entertainment. After all, in 2018 the team was acquired by Microsoft, and the company is not in the habit of sparing money on its developers. The projects released since then were initiated even before this deal, so the next announced title from inXile will be the first from the beginning created under the wings of the Redmond giant.
