Wasteland 3 Devs are Working on First-person RPG
inXile Entertaiment is working on two new RPGs. According to latest information, at least one of them will include FPS elements.
Wasteland 3, anticipated and warmly received by players and reviewers, finally launched. Brian Fargo and his team aren't falling wasting any time, and just a month after the release, they announced that they were working on two more RPGs. So far, however, the information about inXile's new games has been scarce. One could only be certain that the games are being developed, one of them is at a very early stage of work, and that at least one of them will use the new Unreal Engine 5.
A new light on the games of Wasteland 3 developers is shed by the job offers posted online by inXile. As noted by twistedvoxel.com, it can be inferred from the announcements available on the studio's website that at least one of the announced games will offer FPP gameplay. In the advertisement for the position lead gameplay designer we can read:
"InXile Entertainment is looking for a talented, enthusiastic Lead Gameplay Engineer to help drive the vision for the studio’s next-generation action role-playing game."
Among the many responsibilities in this position, the point is particularly noticeable:
"Architect, implement, and support new first person shooter gameplay features."
The new project by Brian Fargo's team also aims at the highest level of graphics. The person dealing with face animation is required to:
"Create visually stunning 3D facial animations."
The art director of the project is expected to be a person that:
"Has the skills and knowledge to clearly communicate artistic direction, coupled with the ability to help the team transform that direction into mind-blowing game visuals."
In the light of this information, one can already make some assumptions about the likely direction of at least one of the games. We know that inXile Entertainment is aiming for an AAA title, which will be an RPG with FPS elements. It's a big change, because so far the studio's biggest work - the Wasteland series - was an isometric RPG with a turn-based combat system. However, they are no strangers to shooter mechanics, because they certainly had a chance to work on FPS elements while developing Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds.
Information about new games from Brian Fargo's studio awakens hopes of fans of the first two parts of the Fallout series. It was his studio - Interplay Entertainment - that was responsible for the two iconic installments of the series. The acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft, which includes inXile, opens the door to the return of the brand under Fargo's wings. This means we could hope that one of the new projects will be associated with the Fallout brand. We will probably have to wait a long time for any official information, so we have to be patient, as Brian Fargo himself stressed.
