Minesweeper Removed From Windows; Recreated by Fan in Minecraft
Game in a game is always an interesting thing. However, it gets much more interesting when someone recreates an iconic game in an equally iconic game. Minesweeper in Minecraft is such an example.
To say that the Minecraft community is creative is like saying nothing. Not once have we written about inventions or games that have been recreated in the voxel sandbox. Now another construction has joined that list - the classic Minesweeper.
A classic inside a classic
Probably most of us know Minesweeper however, adding a brief historical context is never a bad thing. This iconic game was written in 1981 and accompanied Windows systems until the seventh incarnation. Now it's only available on Microsoft Store.
In Minesweeper, as the name suggests, we have to guess where the mines are and clean a square board without blowing ourselves up in the process. The rules of the game are very simple, but replicating them in Minecraft was quite a challenge.
The idea to create MAPSweeper was born when CraftyMasterman was about to enter a contest for the best redstone build. He had five days to create a contest entry, which proved to be insufficient.
Youtuber decided to spend a little more time on the project, and after nearly three weeks he managed to develop a working Minecraft. A video explaining the entire process can be found below.
"The amount of redstone that must have gone into this is truly formidable. I'm really looking forward to trying it out myself," wrote Redditor_0520
But... how do you play Minesweeper?
On the occasion of the video's publication, it turned out that some players are dealing with Minesweeper for the first time. Of course, this is no disgrace (I think). Fortunately CraftyMasterman also included the game rules and manual in the files of his project.
When it comes to Minesweeper gameplay in Minecraft then if you fail to clear the field and hit a mine, you don't have to worry - it won't explode. Although as CraftyMasterman says, this can be changed very quickly.
It is also worth mentioning that Minecraft was created on Minecraft version 1.18.1 (although it also works on 1.18.2). If you want to make sure that the game works properly, it is best to run the sandbox in this version.
Finally, it's worth mentioning that this is not the only impressive build by youtuber CraftyMasterman. He has also created a stopwatch, a door made of pistons etc., all thanks to the use of redstone. Minecraft engineers will probably never cease to amaze.
