Minecraft Meets Forager in Base-building Game Outpath; 98% Positive Ratings on Steam
If you are looking for an alternative to Minecraft, Outpath may be the perfect game for you.
Sandbox games, in which you traverse the map in search of resources to expand your base, with no major objective looming over your head, are a genre that will probably never die.
A category popularized by the iconic (and bestselling) Minecraft has been drawing crowds of gamers for years, and it is on this wave that many games have been created in an attempt to capitalize on this success. One of the most recent "Minecraft clones" is Outpath, which is collecting great ratings from the players.
Minecraft Forager = Outpath?
Outpath appeared on Steam on October 16. The game is the work of a one-man studio in the person of independent developer David Moralejo Sánchez. Outpath is a sandbox FPP game, at first glance resembling Minecraft - especially with its design, based on cubic blocks.
Exploration, resource gathering and crafting is complemented here by a character progression system - with progression come new skills, just like in another sandbox game, from which Outpath draws inspiration. The game in question is Forager.
Although on the surface Outpath does not offer anything groundbreaking, players seem to appreciate what the game has to offer - the product card on Steam shows a proud 98% of positive reviews (out of 388 total).
Below we quote a few selected reviews:
"Forager + Minecraft, but with its own personality. For some time I have been waiting for a game that would satisfy my Forager hunger, and Outpath does that and even more. I highly recommend it :)," writes Hecate.
"I didn't think I would like it. I thought it would be another mindless clicking game. Boy, how wrong I was! I LOVED IT! I played the demo for 96 minutes and the only reason I stopped was to buy the full version of the game!
I got almost 10 hours playing the game the first time and the only reason I stopped was to leave this review.
It is really good," wrote user frograven.
