Midnight Society, Studio Founded By Dr. Disrespect, Shuts Down
Midnight Society, the studio that cut ties with Dr. Disrespect last summer, is shutting down after three years of development on first-person shooter, Deadrop.

Midnight Society, the game development studio that cut ties last summer with the now infamous streamer, Dr. Disrespect, has announced it is shutting down. The studio terminated its relationship with Guy Beahm, a.k.a. Dr. Disrespect, in June of 2024 when allegations surfaced of Beahm allegedly sent explicit messages to a minor. The studio has been working on Deadrop, a first-person shooter for three years.

The studio announced today via social media that it would be closing its doors. The message mentioned the 55 developers that worked at the studio and that Midnight Society is “actively seeking other game studios that would be interested in offering employment opportunities to our talented team members.” The now defunct studio was formed in 2021 by Beahm, along with industry veterans Robert Bowling, a former Call of Duty creative strategist and Quinn Delhoyo, the designer of Halo 5’s multiplayer.
Deadrop, the free-to-play FPS that Midnight Society has been working on, was playable in several demos to community members. It has been described as a “vertical extraction shooter set in a dark and violent future where the 80s never ended…” via Midnight Society’s website.
The game was also planned to include ten-thousand unique, procedurally generated “VisorCortexes” that would be unique to the individual players that buy an Access Pass and could be bought and sold between players. On Deadrop’s FAQ page, the question “Is Deadrop a blockchain game?” is answered with “That’s a question worthy of a lengthy discussion.” With the studio closed and the game no longer in active development, some fans responded to Midnight Society’s announcement concerning refunds. Players were able to buy into the game early with the promise of eventually receiving the full release, and it is unclear what recourse they have now.
Back in September, Midnight Society said in a statement to PCGamer that the studio had “faced multiple unexpected challenges” in the months following the split with Dr. Disrespect, which resulted in layoffs. Unfortunately for the remaining employees, it is now clear that those layoffs were unable to right the ship.
