Metaphor: ReFantazio, Best RPG of 2024, Now Looks Even Better on PC Thanks to MetaphorFix Mod
Metaphor: ReFantazio, the top-rated RPG of this year, has quite a few shortcomings on PC. The most serious of these you can fix with MetaphorFix modification.
The RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio ended up becoming a huge success, both commercially and critically. However, this does not mean that it’s a perfect game. Especially on PC, it has quite a few shortcomings. As of now, we don’t know whether the devs intend to fix them, so one fan rolled up his sleeves and decided to do it himself.
That fan goes by the nickname Lyall, and the fruit of his labor is the MetaphorFix modification. Among other things, it introduces full support for ultrawide resolutions, both during gameplay (with a properly scaled interface) and during cutscenes. The mod also improves the visuals by increasing the resolution of ambient occlusion and shadows. In addition, the aggressiveness of the LOD effect has been lowered, so that at further distances the game still renders objects in high quality, instead of their simplified versions.
The project also allows you to disable the 60 fps limit and adds an option to skip intros. Support for 8-way analog movement when playing on a controller has also been implemented, and the FOV (Field of View/Width of Field of View) has been improved.
MetaphorFix is continuously improving. The latest version, numbered 0.8.4, was released yesterday. It fixed several bugs with camera behavior and improved interface scaling.
Metaphor: ReFantazio was released on October 11 on PC and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Atlus has never officially supported mods. However, the company uses the GFD engine for all its projects and fans are getting better and better at modding it. At the same time, proprietary tools they have developed are being systematically adapted to new games based on this technology. We hope that they will soon reach a similar level to what modders did with FromSoftware games, where they eventually managed to figure out even how to add new content or create additional gameplay modes.
