Bioware Impressed by Indoctrination Theory From Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 3's screenwriter is full of admiration for the fans who came up with the indoctrination theory. He admits it's not true, but that doesn't stop him from being impressed by fan creativity.
- The Indoctrination theory from Mass Effect 3 is the most popular among all fan theories;
- The screenwriter of the third installment expressed his admiration for the people who created it.
The theory of Shepard's indoctrination, although it is very much appreciated by fans of the Mass Effect series and quite popular, is not true, which has been repeatedly stated by Bioware's employees. In an interview published on The Gamer a few days ago, scriptwriter of Mass Effect 3, Chris Hepler, admitted that he's full of admiration for the people who came up with it.
Hepler admitted that the idea of the Reapers brainwashing Shepard was something that no one on the script team had come up with. To quote Chris:
"The Indoctrination Theory is a really interesting theory, but it's entirely created by the fans. While we made some of the ending a little trippy because Shepard is a breath away from dying and it's entirely possible there's some subconscious power to the kid's words, we never had the sort of meetings you'd need to have to properly seed it through the game. We weren't that smart. By all means, make mods and write a fanfic about it, and enjoy whatever floats your boat, because it's a cool way to interpret the game. But it wasn't our intention. We didn't write that."
Hepler also added that he's privately a fan of this development in Mass Effect trilogy's ending, and is glad that fans are so creative in writing fan fiction, also adding words of encouragement for any interpretation of the games' story.
If you haven't had a chance to play the Mass Effect trilogy yet, the remaster will launch on May 14 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. In addition to the games, the set will also include all the expansions released for these games.
