Switching to FPP Opens New Level of Immersion in Mass Effect
An impressive fan mod has been released, adding a polished FPP mode to Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. For now, it is only available for the first part of the trilogy.
Update
The mod has been updated to version 1.2.2. Among changes are: the sprint shake will no longer be applied when the game is paused. The camera will now stay in first-person when transitioning to/from a cinematic or when activating certain special interactions. The creator also fixed some errors that sometiems cause a rare cases of the head remaining invisible when entering a conversation.
Original message
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has formed quite a large and active modding community. The latest example of this is a mod adding a fully functional FPP mode.
The project is simply called MassFPS - First-Person Camera (LE1) and it enables you to play the entire game from first-person perspective. "LE1" in the title means that for now, the mod only works with the refreshed version of the first part of the trilogy. However, Aphar, the author of the modification, is already working on versions for the other two remasters included in the set.
The mod works surprisingly well. The FPP mode works well not only during exploration, but also combat. During it, it has now become necessary to manually hide behind covers, as the game's system of this type, inherent in TPP games, which facilitates this, has been disabled. The author also reworked the movement mechanics and camera behavior to fit the new perspective.
The only thing the creator could not achieve was visibility of weapons and the protagonist's body in FPP mode. This would have required extesive changes to the game's code, which, at least for the time being, are not possible for fans modifying Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.
Recall that the remastered trilogy was released in May 2021. The collection is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. MassFPS - First-Person Camera (LE1). can only be installed on PC.
