Marvel's Spiderman Could Have Offered Multiplayer, PC Version Files Suggest
The PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man debuted just a few days ago, and users have already ran through the game's files. Their search reveals that the game may have offered a cooperative mode.
Last Friday, the PC version ofMarvel's Spider-Man Remastered has been released. Until now, this well-regarded title was only available on PlayStation consoles, and playing it on PCs remained a fan's dream. As expected, Insomniac Games' title was met with a great reception, winning the second place in terms of popularity among Sony games on Steam (the leader remains God of War - you can read more about it here).
Interestingly, while some fully indulged in the enjoyment of the game itself, others took pleasure in analyzing its files.
Twitter user DniweTamp came across an extremely interesting find while combing through the title's content. It shows that the developers were testing, among other things, the possibility of a 2-player co-op mode (via VGC).
It is worth noting that the screenshots show such lines as "Player 1" and "Player 2" or "Blue Team" and "Red Team", which suggest the possibility of multiplayer gameplay.
Apparently, the multiplayer mode would be separate from the single-player campaign. From the information in the files, it appears that it would not be available from the beginning of the game, which means that users would have to unlock the option or download it as additional content..
However, we don't know if this is a remnant of the co-op mode that was supposed to make its way into the first installment of Spider-Man, or whether Insomniac Games' specialists decided to use the PC version to test the mode on its example, so it could be implemented in the sequel.
Finally, as a reminder, it is worth mentioning that in November we will see the release of the PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Meanwhile, next year, PlayStation owners will be able to return to the universe in the sequel to the 2018 hit. We do not yet know the exact release date for both titles.
