Mark Hamill Says Goodbye to Star Wars Fans
Mark Hamill published a letter to Star Wars fans. Playing the role of Luke Skywalker, he said goodbye to the franchise's community, thanking them for their support and remembering the first audition for the role, together with Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.
You can have a lot of comments on the finale of the last Star Wars trilogy, but - whether you want it or not - The Rise of Skywalker was a farewell, if not to the Skywalker family, then certainly to its most famous member. For Luke Skywalker's role of Mark Hamill is the end of his story in Star Wars, which the actor expressed on Twitter. In a recent entry he published a farewell letter, in which he summed up 40 years spent with the franchise.
Hamill mentioned his first contact with Star War when he tried to play the role of Luke Starkiller (as that was the name of the famous Jedi in the script from 1976). At that time no one suspected that George Lucas' work would give rise to one of the most recognizable film franchises in history: neither Mark Hamil, nor Harrison Ford, nor Carrie Fisher. The actress playing Princess Leia was once supposed to say that "Star Wars is [a series] about family," and Hamill considers his family to be the community centred around the franchise, which he thanked for its many years of support:
The mention of further development of the universe is obvious, although after the last film fans have some concerns about the future of the franchise. On the other hand, we also got the well-received The Mandalorian, who expects a second season this year (although there may be a delay due to the current situation). Anyway, fans have no choice but to wish Star Wars and themselves the same thing Mark Hamill did:
May the Force be with you... always.
