League of Legends MMO Could Fail, Developer Warns
Greg Street from Riot Games doesn't guarantee that his MMO game set in the League of Legends universe - announced over a year ago - will ever see the light of day.
For several years, the creators of League of Legends have been expanding into new territories, not just non-MOBA game genres. They have even achieved several successes but apparently they're still being cautious. This is suggested by a recent post of one of the developers from Riot Games, who stated that there are no guarantees about the release of the MMO game set in the world of LoL.
Greg Street, the man in question, is by no means a pessimist. On the contrary, the dev stressed on Twitter that things are going "super good" and the company is full of optimism about the project, which was announced in late 2020. It's just that, he said, you never quite know if a game will actually be released - especially since Riot has "high standards" and won't allow itself to release a "disappointing production."
However, if the world does live to see the release of the MMO from Riot Games, it will be the last project from this developer, who has previously worked not only on LoL, but also World of Warcraft and Age of Empires. Greg Street hasn't explicitly written about quitting the game industry, but he has stated that the release of this "magnum opus" would be a good final chapter of his story (as a game developer).
Street didn't take the opportunity to share details about his "final" game. We know absolutely nothing about it, and apparently that will remain the case for some time to come.
