To Buy New Skin in LoL You Have to Spend Almost $500. Players Think Riot Went Crazy
At least they allow you to buy one package of RPs at a time. Just in case you don't want to do ten transactions.
When we think of League of Legends pro players, one of the first people that comes to mind is usually Faker. The player from South Korea is the only e-sports athlete in the world who can boast a four-time World Champion title - thanks to this, he has become an almost legendary figure for the MOBA fan community.
Aware of this success, Riot decided to reward Faker with skins released in his honor. Unfortunately, something that had the potential to immortalize the fame of the very best quickly became the most significant scandal in recent months.
Most expensive skin in the history of LoL
Riot Games announced the Hall of Legends project at the start of this year, which is an annual celebration of the most prominent figures in the LoL universe. Faker was the first to be immortalized at the event, with more than just a pass being prepared for it - special skin sets and extras were also included...
...which won't be affordable for everyone. Although fans knew from the beginning that the Hall of Legends would be priced high, no one expected such an excessive costs. Everything revolves around Ahri, one of the most recognizable champions in Faker's career.
In celebration of Hall of Legends, three collectible sets based on the fox character will be introduced to the store. The most affordable option (Risen Legend) includes a new character skin and unlocks pass levels in excess of one hundred - this pleasure will cost us 5430 RP.
The real stairs begin at the next two sets. The "Immortalized Legend" now costs RP 32,430 and introduces a premium variant of the previously mentioned skin, which evolves over the course of the match and contains special sound effects. Even more exclusive content (such as Faker's autograph or emotes) can be found in the "Signature Immortalized Legend," which costs almost 60,000 RP.
"It could have been a sincere celebration"
Investing in the number of Riot points required to purchase the most extended package costs almost $500, which for many players means the lion's share of the monthly salary. Therefore, no one should be surprised that LoL fans are outraged - especially those maining Ahri.
They're asking for 500 bucks for a SKIN. Nothing physical, no "look i paid to be immortalized into this game myself." A skin. In a videogame with a birds eye view.

"Let's celebrate the face of our e-sport (who famously doesn't even spend money on skins) by absolutely overcharging the heck out of his event skins." What the hell, Riot?
-- I_Ruv_Kpop
Riot had previously introduced Ultimate skins to its game, the original price of which was $20. Now the price appears to be unusually low, particularly compared to other company ideas such as premium skins or recent gacha experiments. Riot devs are once again justifying the price of Ahri with exclusive collector's content.
While more expensive, these versions are meant to be highly commemorative, with never-before-implemented features that we can’t wait to see hit the Rift.
-- Riot Games
Don't spend $500. Use the real Faker Ahri Skin instead.
-- HappyChimeNoises
According to players, the entire Hall of Legends project is insincere and aimed only at making money, which is even expressed by some streamers (such as ioki or Caedrel). The situation isn't made easier by the fact that Faker himself rarely uses skins, and Ahri is one of the most popular characters.
This is pretty shameful, because this could have been a genuine celebration of the greatest player of all time, a way to honor e-sports and the legacy of League of Legends itself.
-- ioki
I'm extremely disappointed that this whole concept that looked like a great way to celebrate players has now obviously turned into a massive cash grab.
-- Caedrel
At the moment, Rioters have not responded to the allegations, only announcing that the store will introduce the option to purchase "RP in the amount required for the collection." There is no question that there will still be people interested in the new Ahri skin - just as with the mythical variations of legendary skins, which ultimately caused a similar backlash.
