We didn't have to wait long for the first results of the Witcher project. The story „Lesser Evil” is now available in the alpha version.

For many fans of The Witcher universe, it's not only the games but above all the books - which serve as the source material. Some people started their journey with them, which allowed them to learn about Geralt's fate before the events seen on computer or console screens. Collections of stories, from which everything originally began, evoke particularly strong feelings of nostalgia.

A certain fan decided to transfer the early history of Geralt of Rivia to The Wild Hunt and as you can see, he did his job. We can already play the first effects of "The Last Wish Project" now.

"If I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all"

At the end of last week, the creator of the project released the alpha version of the Lesser Evil story, in which Geralt sets off to the town of Blaviken to hunt a kikimora. Due to the mayor's lack of funds, the witcher is led to the wizard Stregobor, who has another task for him - to kill Princess Renfri, afflicted by the Black Sun curse.

The story about choosing between two evils is one of the most important in Geralt's life, who, in its aftermath, earned the nickname "The Butcher of Blaviken." The modder was keen on recreating the gloomy atmosphere of both the town and the story's plot, while simultaneously providing side activities for the players.

The first feedback, available on the official Discord of the project, is exceptionally positive. Fans primarily praise the graphic design, perfectly reflecting Blaviken as we know it from the book. A nice addition is the graphics in the form of drawings similar to those from The Witcher 1.

However - as is often the case with the alpha version - there were some issues. Players primarily criticize the lack of dialogue options and the pace of the story, which at some point is too fast. As a result, the final showdown between Geralt and Renfri doesn't bring as many emotions as in the original - the perfect solution would be to add more choices or a narrator in the style of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Some people also pay attention to common bugs, although most of them are limited to "harmless" glitches in textures or flying objects. Some people faced issues with moving Geralt to the Kaer Morhen map, and the solution was to remove the other mods - thus, the Lesser Evil isn't compatible with everything.

The next in line is Strzyga

The modder is not only concerned with fixes to the Lesser Evil but also with working on the next episodes of his project. As he announced on Discord, the next in line will be The Witcher story, starting the book series. Maybe soon we will be able to lift the curse of a striga, in a game that's a bit more polished than the first Witcher.

Besides, the creator regularly shares screenshots from locations related to the next stories. In the Discord chat, we will see, among other things, the Temple of Melitele, the edge of the Dol Blathanna Forest, and the residence of a "certain gentleman" cursed into a monster. Lesser Evil can be downloaded from the official project website, which also contains a set of selected screenshots and links to all platforms for tracking and supporting modifications.

Similar initiatives are also being created in other games, an example of which is the aforementioned Baldur’s Gate 3. A particular fan mod takes players of Larian Studios' RPG to the world of World of Warcraft.
