Kojima spends so much time testing Death Stranding 2 that he's missing sleep. „I fell asleep twice while on a delivery”

Hideo Kojima will appear at The Game Awards 2024, but for the time being he is spending his sleep on testing Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

Video game development is rarely an easy, pleasant job. In the case of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the development was so challenging for Hideo Kojima that the legendary creator fell asleep twice during the virtual delivery and had at least one "landing" with a vehicle at the bottom of a cliff.

This is one of many posts by Ayako Terashima, the Japanese dev's personal assistant, showing Kojima testing out a current build of the second Death Stranding. One of the latest posts on X was commented on by the developer himself.

As he stated, he has been suffering from a lack of sleep recently, which resulted in the aforementioned two cases of falling asleep while testing the current version of DS 2. It probably wasn't the last time, at least judging by Terashima's next post from December 6. Maybe that's why the next two photos show him from the back or with sunglasses.

Some more malicious players might joke that Kojima's sleepiness has less to do with hard work and more to do with the boring gameplay of the sequel to the memorable "walking simulator." However, it should be reminded that Koijma announced his presence at The Game Awards 2024, which will take place on December 13 (via Geoff Keighley on X).

It is therefore possible that the entire Kojima Productions team is intensively preparing to present Death Stranding 2 during the ceremony, and we know how much of a burden this can put on the developers.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will be released in 2025 on PlayStation 5 (at least initially: the first part also hit PC, although much later than on Sony consoles).
