Kojima on Wanting to Make a Movie, Manga or Anime and New Projects
In an interview for Famitsu, Hideo Kojima once again stressed that he would like to deal with some other projects besides games - manga, anime or maybe movies. Moreover, he confirmed that his studio is planning to work on several titles, including a big one.
There is no doubt that Hideo Kojima is one of the most colorful and recognizable personas in the video game industry. However, he repeatedly revealed his ambition to go beyond it and create some other cultural work. For the last time, Last time the man mentioned his dreams of making a movie was during last year's interviews with the BBC and the Youtube channel Rocket Beans Gaming. He raised the subject again in a recent conversation with a journalist from the Famitsu magazine (via DualShockers). But it wasn't just a bunch of what-ifs about a live-action title.
Kojima took part in an interview for Famitsu together with Yoji Shinkawa, the artist using a distinctive visual style who was responsible for character design in the games of the Japanese gamedev legend. The artists revealed that they would like to create a manga or anime together. They are primarily interested in positions with mechs in the lead role. They both realize that it would take a lot of work, but at the same time, they also point out that it would be less than in the case of a video game project.
Continuing his reflections on movies, Kojima said something about how the worlds of cinema and video games are changing and starting to mix together. The Japanese developer noted that many contemporary directors have been brought up on the way of telling stories in video games. Also a lot of actors are looking more and more favourably at digital entertainment. As an example, the creator mentioned Oscar Isaac, who recently visited the headquarters of Kojima Productions and was very impressed by the work of the team from the Land of the Rising Sun.
From other interesting things, during the interview with Famitsu, Kojima confirmed that his studio already has several new game projects he can work on. One of them is a "big production", but at the same time the team would like to prepare a few smaller titles, released episodically or only digitally. Kojima is not sure if they will manage to achieve this, but if so, we will certainly get some interesting items. Who knows, maybe one of them will be the horror movie Kojima dreamed of.
