Hidetaka Miyazaki makes decisions about Bloodborne's future, but he is said to be too busy to work on anything related to the brand

The former head of PlayStation Studios has come up with a theory as to why Sony isn't doing anything about the Bloodborne brand. He believes that Miyazaki is too busy and doesn't want to give it to another studio, and the company respects his opinion.

One of the creators of the first PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida, officially stopped working at Sony after 31 years. On the same day, he participated in a two-hour interview for the Kinda Funny Games channel, which you can watch on YouTube. He tackled many different topics there, among which was Bloodborne.

Bloodborne's future depends on Miyazaki

The entire interview has a rather nostalgic tone. The creator talked about his career, the times when he and Ken Kutaragi were developing the first PlayStation, trips to various countries, meetings with developers, and his experiences as the head of PS Studios. He also listed his favorite titles, among which were Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, and Shadow of the Colossus. He shared his future plans, which are related to indie games.

What particularly intrigued the players, however, was a part of his statement regarding Bloodborne. Fans of the soulslike genre are notably sensitive to any references to this title, which is still exclusive to Sony consoles, and even there, its performance occasionally calls for an update. Yoshida, in turn, presented a theory, according to which, in his opinion, the Japanese company doesn't touch this brand.

Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne and what he created. I think he is interested, but he's so successful, and he's so busy, he cannot do it himself, but he doesn't want anyone else to touch it. This is my guess. The PlayStation team respects his wish.

Nonetheless, fans are quite skeptical of his words, as Miyazaki has frequently stressed that the decision regarding Bloodborne's future is not his to make, but solely Sony's. He himself recently conveyed that he would like the game to reach as many players as possible.

On the other hand, Bloodborne is one of his favorite titles developed by FromSoftware, so perhaps he is indeed opposed to handing it over to another studio. The potential favorite among players to prepare the refresh is Bluepoint Games studio, which created Demon’s Souls Remake, but it is now busy with its own, original game.

It's also worth mentioning that on March 24th this year, Bloodborne will be celebrating its 8th anniversary. Many fans of the game (myself included) are hoping Sony will find a way to mark this anniversary, though it's likely just wishful thinking.
