Supergiant Games has announced the next major update for Hades 2. The sequel to the popular 2020 indie roguelike, Hades, is still in early access on Steam, but this new update expands the amount of content currently available. The update is entitled The Warsong Update and was revealed in a trailer on the developer’s YouTube channel. The update is available for all players to download now.

This new update introduces many new additions and features, but is primarily themed around the new character Ares, the god of war. From a post on the game’s Steam page, players will be able to gain his “varied and vicious boons to see if [they] can satisfy his thirst for blood.” Players will be able to engage in the final confrontation on the surface and explore what lies beyond the last major update, Mount Olympus. The Alter of Ashes has been updated, there is a new animal familiar to discover, and this update includes more than two thousand new voice lines from the game’s cast. Players will also now be able to conquer two full length runs, the Underworld and the Surface.

At the time of writing, Hades 2’s Steam player count has shot up drastically. It was previously hovering around a few thousand for the last few months, but at the time of writing this there are over twelve thousand players in the game. The Supergiant team continues its tradition of uploading a “dramatic reading” of the update’s patch notes to their YouTube channel, so if you would like to experience the details that way, you can.

Regarding the future of Hades 2, the Steam post reads: “we have already made plans for our third Major Update, which we intend to deliver some months from now. Note it’s still too early to share our plans beyond that, including when our v1.0 launch will be.” Since the first major update launched in October and this is launching now, it makes sense that the next major update will land sometime this summer, but there’s no definite answer on that yet.

For now, Hades 2 will remain in early access. The Supergiant team thanks players in their Steam post, saying: “Early Access continues to be an essential part of Hades 2 development, and we hope you can feel this reflected in our Major Updates and other patches so far.” The updates also include improvements to boons, streamlined resource gathering and more. The post continues, saying: “thank you very much for playing Hades 2! You’re helping us get closer to achieving our goal of making our first-ever sequel our biggest, most replayable game yet…
