GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition Trailer has Fans Suspect Censorship
Fans of the GTA series noticed some interesting things in the recent trailer for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition - the removal of a controversial symbol from the shirt of one of the characters. In addition, an interesting video comparing the refreshed versions of the games with the originals has appeared online.
- Fans have noticed that the trailer for GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has removed the Confederate flag from one of the characters' shirts;
- A video has hit the web, offering a visual comparison between the refreshed versions of the trilogy and the originals.
A few days ago the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was released. Fans immediately started analyzing it and discovered elements suggesting that the refreshed versions may have been partially censored compared to the original games.
Reddit user Chazza354 pointed out that Phil Cassidy no longer wears a T-shirt with a Confederate flag - in the trailer it was replaced with a skull symbol. Some fans argue that it's possible that Rockstar Games made this change just for the sake of the trailer, and in the games the character's outfit will remain the same as in the original. It seems unlikely, because if the devs wanted to avoid controversy only in the trailer, they simply would not show the character in it.
The change of the jersey is not a special surprise. The reception of the Confederate flag is now incomparably worse than when Grand Theft Auto III and GTA: Vice City were released. The distinctive cross has been removed from Georgia and Mississippi state flags, among others, and displaying it in public is now seen as racist. Last year also the Forza series banned the symbol from player-created cars.
The question is whether this is the only such case in GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition or did the devs also remove other controversial elements - as some fans, including Khazza354, fear. We'll probably find out only after the release.
Staying on the topic of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition it's worth mentioning an interesting material from the ENXGMA channel, which offers a graphic comparison between the refreshed versions of the trilogy and the original.
The creators of this video did a great job, comparing scenes from the trailer with their versions from the old games. On top of that, they've thoroughly researched and showcased the improvements that GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition added in these sequences. Thanks to this, we can take a closer look at, among others, improved textures, beautified lighting, and significantly different character models, which look more cartoonish than the originals.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is at this point scheduled for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 , PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. Digital versions will be released on November 11, while the boxed edition is to launch on December 7, but it will only be available on consoles. Next year, a release is planned for iOS and Android.
