Google Cancels I/O 2020 Due to Coronavirus
Google has decided to cancel the „physical” I/O 2020 event planned for mid-May, which was to be the company's largest event this year. As you can guess, the reason are fears of the coronavirus.
- Due to fears of the coronavirus, Google has decided to cancel the I/O 2020 event.
- However, it is possible that it will take place in digital form.
- It's another event cancelled due to the fears of the novel disease.
With more confirmed cases worldwide, the fear of SARS-CoV-2, popularly known as the coronavirus, is growing. Not only the common citizens, but also the owners of large companies are starting to get anxious. These include Google, which has taken quite drastic steps in recent hours to protect the health of its employees, journalists and fans. You see, the corporation decided to cancel the "physical" form of the I/O 2020 event, which was to take place in Mountain View on May 12-14 (via The Verge).
An appropriate message has been sent to those who were to participate in I/O 2020. You will find its full content below.
It is worth noting the penultimate paragraph and emphasizing that the "physical" form of the event was cancelled. It is therefore possible that I/O 2020 will take place in some other form, for example as livestream. Google would certainly like that, because it is the most important event of the year for them, during which they present various software and hardware innovations.
What's more important, I/O 2020 is not the only event that was recently cancelled by Google due to coronavirus. Last Monday there was an announcement that there will be no Cloud Next event scheduled for early April. In return, registered persons will be able to participate in the digital version of this event (via The Verge).
We would like to remind that I/O 2020 and Cloud Next are not the only "victims" of coronavirus when it comes to the digital and electronic industry. Microsoft cancelled MVP Summit, and there will be no MWC 2020 in Barcelona. Moreover, GDC was postponed to summer, and companies such as CD Projekt RED, Kojima Productions or Sony resigned from participation in PAX East.
