Death Stranding 2 Rewritten From Scratch, Hideo Kojima Reveals
Legendary designer Hideo Kojima has revealed how a certain event of global proportions affected work on Death Stranding 2.
Hideo Kojima doesn't often share information about the upcoming Death Stranding 2. This time, however, the legendary creator made an exception and in an interview with the Japanese website Natalie revealed some details about the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 hit.
It turns out that the original script of Death Stranding 2, which was prepared before the coronavirus pandemic, has been completely rewritten. Kojima, observing the situation in the world, decided to put more emphasis on real-life "connections" and not the one we have seen around us.
"The plot of DS2 was created even before the pandemic. However, when the pandemic did strike, it led us to restructure the entire script. In Death Stranding we championed the act of connection. But, as the pandemic took hold, digital connections like remote work gained prominence. I also realized that digital connections alone couldn’t satisfy human needs. We are inherently explorers," Kojima explained (via VGC).
It is for this reason that the game will change the meaning of the title "Strand"..
“Right now, we’re dealing with seclusion and division, and the world is undergoing significant transformations. We can’t rewind to our pre-pandemic reality, so we’ve had to reassess the concept of ‘connection’. In Death Stranding 2, the interpretation of ‘strand’ evolves. You’ll notice, at the end of the teaser trailer, a message that says ‘Should We Have Connected?’ That’s the crux of what we’re trying to articulate in the sequel," Kojima explained, suggesting at the end that not all "connections" are good.
Hideo Kojima also referred to work on the movie adaptation of Death Stranding. According to the developer, the production will be presented in a completely different and surprising way.
"I would like to do something unique for this movie. I am planning something completely different. I think you will be a bit surprised," he added in his favorite enigmatic style.
Kojima Productions continues to develop Death Stranding 2, which is why the game's release date has not yet been announced. And if we were to rely on unconfirmed information, the game should be released in 2024. At least, that's according to what was inadvertently revealed by former Playstation Studios Visual Arts employee some time ago.
