Genshin Impact Review Bombed Again; Million Unfollows Almost Instantly
The developers of Genshin Impact have badly offended Chinese fans of the RPG. Devotees of the title from MiHoYo studio have stopped watching the game's social media accounts en masse, and have given it the lowest score.
Genshin Impact has trouble - the game is once again massively bombarded with negative reviews and unfollows. This time it is mainly Chinese fans of the production who are disappointed (not to say furious) with the developers' announcement that the rewards from the annual Lantern Rite event will be less than what they are accustomed to.
Everything started with a new video where developers discussed the details of the incoming update 4.4. During the broadcast, it was also announced that as a part of the mentioned event, the players this time will be able to obtain a maximum of three so-called Intertwined Fates, which are spent on Event Wishes. Such a move was very displeasing to at least a million Chinese players.
- The official account of Genshin Impact on Chinese Douyin (i.e. TikTok) has been unfollowed by as many as a million people. Previously, the profile was followed by about 9.3 million users, and after the "unrest," this number dropped to about 8.2 million.
- The situation doesn't look any better on BiliBili (the equivalent of YouTube). The game's account is losing more "followers" and also receiving many one-star reviews.
- Interestingly, the anger of angry players also spilt over to the production's advertising partners. Fans are stopping following networks like Pizza Hut, KFC or Chinese HeyTea on social media.
It should be noted that the fans' dissatisfaction was also influenced by a number of previous decisions of the MiHoYo studio responsible for Genshin Impact - e.g. providing a free character skin selector after purchasing the PlayStation 5 console, although in their other game - Honkai: Star Rail - it was enough to just log in to get a "five-star" hero for free.
So far, MiHoYo has not commented on the mass loss of followers of Genshin Impact's social media profiles.
