The latest event in Genshin Impact, Alchemical Ascension, puts the player in charge of running a potion business. Brewing potions according to demand is done through a logic puzzle mini-game, but getting the right Efficiacy and Characteristics may be challenging. With our guide, however, you will become a master Alchemist in no time.

Genshin Impact – Potion Event Guide Basics
Alchemical Ascension gives you a lot of freedom in how to complete each task, and a randomized set of objectives, so your experience in the event won’t be exactly the same as other players. The gameplay encourages trial and error, but if you want to learn how to run your potion stall more effectively, read on.
Market News, Efficiecy and Characteristics
At the beginning of each circle, you will receive a Market News report compiled by Lisa. At first, above each piece of information there will be ??? marks.
It might seem like a lot to remember, but worry not, you can check it anytime from the potion shelf at the shop. Just click “Stock Potions” and then select “Market News” at the bottom left.
Let’s go brew a potion. Especially before alchemy level 15, where you will only be able to brew one option per cycle, a good idea is to try to meet two or more different demands at once. For this guide, to fulfil the relieve psychical discomfort and focus harder requirements, I’ve made a Constitution & Wisdom Efficiecy Potion. I focused on ingredients of these two types and added Special Mushroom and Mint that boost all Efficiacies to fill out the grid.
In order to brew a potion with two Efficiacies, try to add an equal amount of ingredients for each, keeping a close eye on the Current Potion Status. If you go too far in one direction, the second Efficiacy might be lost. You can Extract an ingredient if you don’t like the effect.
Later on, when you unlock more slots in the shop, you’re going to actually want to make single Efficiacy potions because Efficiacies of potions up for sale cannot overlap.
Try to pay attention to the Characteristics as well. My potion’s Healing Characteristic, which should also meet the first demand from my Market News list, comes from the Special Qingxin. You have to use a few of the same ingredient before the related Characteristic is added. Notice how I also got a Strengthening Characteristic from the Special Sweet Flower, which should be good for the having more strength demand.
After stocking the potion and finishing the cycle, return to the potions shelf and check Market News again to find (at least some) of the ??? marks filled out! I also stocked potions I brewed previously with the Strength and Dexterity Efficiacy to meet other demands.
The required efficiacy and characteristics you got right previously are filled out, so you can use it as a guide for future cycles before the demand changes.
Special Orders
At certain points of the challenge, you will be visited by playable characters, who will order potions for their needs. If you can’t figure it out, go to “Hand over the potion” – the requirements will be listed at the side, and you can exit out of that screen without failing the challenge. Make sure to complete it within the same cycle.
Getting Ingredients and Upgrades
Improving your cauldron gives you more brewing space and allows to make better recipes, so get upgrades as soon as they become available from Freda. Pick up at least one special bottle from Freda for a buff, too.
In order to make better potions, you will also need more ingredients. They unlock as you level up your Alchemy, so that should be your priority. As soon as you unlock the option, talk to Freda to Improve operating efficiency. Different branches will make it easier to cultivate ingredients, gain experience and so on.

Here are the most important tips for brewing potions in the event summed up:
- Check Market News at the potion shelf and Special Order requirements in “Hand over the potion” tab – you can exit out of them,
- Keep a balance between two Efficiacies for both of them to appear – if one effect is stronger, the potion will only have one Efficiacy,
- Use several of the same ingredient to add a Characteristic,
- Prioritize Orders from visiting characters – you only have one cycle to complete them,
- Don’t forget to cultivate ingredients each cycle, as they run out,
- Get Improved Cauldrons and improve operating efficiency first to make better potions.
