How Old is Gaming in Genshin Impact
Gaming is the latest male character from Liyue added to Genshin Impact. In this article, we gathered hints about his possible age.
The new Liyue character in Genshin Impact, Gaming, uses the so-called short male model. This, along with the themes of his storyline presented in the Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze event and the snippets unlocked in his profile at level up, had some players wondering about his age. While there is no concrete answer given, we can speculate based on hints in the game.
How Old is Gaming in Genshin Impact
In order to answer the question of Gaming’s age, first, we need to consider that he is old enough to live alone. Moreover, he’s working full-time and has two jobs, both consisting of physical labor. He’s a transport guard, which means he sometimes has to carry heavy cargo or fight off bandits attacking a caravan, and he is also a Wushou performer. In game, the dance is inspired by real-life competitive Chinese martial arts and traditional Lion Dance.
According to Gaming’s stories, he learned each of these trades before receiving his Vision, and was already working when he gained favour of the gods. Since his family were merchants, he didn’t need to work at the farm as a kid, and wouldn’t have build up strength that way. He became interested in Wushou dance at an unspecified point of his early adolescence, but he’d need many years of practice to perfect his physical prowess. We cannot say he was only hired for demanding jobs because of his supernatural abilities.
In Gaming’s Character Story 1, we learn that he signed on as a guard at the Strongbox Secure Transport Agency just before Lantern Rite. It could lead to a mistaken assumption that it was before this year’s Rite, but if we consider the facts, that is not possible. First of all, the story states that “Lantern Rite was just around the corner at that time”, which means it was a past celebration. In the Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze event we see that Gaming has a wide network of friends and associates in Yilong Wharf, where he started his independent life, and he’s known and trusted as a guard, which couldn’t have happened in a day. Careful reading of his Character Stories suggests that anywhere from a year to a few could’ve passed since Gaming left home.
Gaming is referred to as a “youth” in his Character Stories, and there is no universally, internationally agreed definition of the term. The United Nations places a “youth” at 15-24 years of age, but this does not have to apply to a story in a fantasy setting.
Gaming’s storyline has markings of a classic coming of age tale, including a conflict with his father over his future career. When leaving home, Gaming was at an age where his father was pressuring him to take over the family business. If we “translate” it to modern terms, it’d place Gaming back then around the age of attending high-school to beginning university, but considering Liyue is based on an earlier age in history, he could’ve been younger. Since he’s been living on his own for a while, we would place him at around 17-21 years old currently.
We should keep in mind that it is normal in Chinese culture to maintain ties with both close and extended relatives well into adulthood, so his storyline revolving around family can’t be the deciding argument in determining his age. What’s more, it’s common that conflicts like Gaming’s with his father may take many long years to resolve.
