Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director has nothing against mods and uses them himself. „They breathe life into the PC market”
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has asked people to hold back the reins with inappropriate mods, but otherwise has great respect for the mod scene and enjoys the fan output himself.
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has nothing against mods - on the contrary, he believes they "breathed life" into the PC market.
This is intriguing because just a month ago, Naoki Hamaguchi asked PC gamers not to use "inappropriate" mods. This appeal is unlikely to have much impact, particularly considering the effectiveness of a similar appeal by the developer of Final Fantasy XVI.
Nevertheless, even then, the director of Rebirth mentioned that although the team doesn't plan official support for mods, the developers appreciate the creativity of the players. Hamaguchi confirmed this sentiment in a conversation with Automaton Media.
Mods breathe life into the PC market
The director admitted that he himself enjoys using mods on PC and realizes that they are an integral part of PC gaming, which gives players a lot of fun. As he explains, his statement from December wasn't about not using mods, but about being "aware" and making sure that modifications don't distort the form of the game developed by the creators. In other words, fans should check exactly what the mods they install are changing.
Hamaguchi highlighted his admiration for modders and noted their creations as a key element in the expansion of the PC gaming market. As an example, he pointed to the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series, the undisputed kings of the modding scene, to which players still return - in the case of Skyrim, over a decade after its release.
The director also didn't fail to praise the speed at which mod creators work compared to developers. Naturally, modders enjoy more freedom and leeway - a malfunctioning or game-breaking mod won't provoke as much uproar as a similar issue in an official update - yet for Hamaguchi, the speed at which mods appear is one reason he finds the PC gaming market "fascinating."
For now, the modders haven't messed up too much in FF VII Rebirth, but they already have a solid foundation.
