Divinity: Original Sin 3 is Definitely Coming, but Devs Need a Break First
Fans of the Divinity: Original Sin series can breathe a sigh of relief, as the third installment of the popular RPG series is in the plans of Larian Studios. However, its imminent release should not be expected.
Although currently Baldur's Gate 3 is a priority for Larian Studios, the developers are not forgetting their hugely popular Divinity series. This is evidenced by recent assurances from the company's head, Swen Vincke.
In an interview with the editors of IGN the boss of Larian confirmed that the studio will return to the land of Rivellon. Vincke added at the same time that work on Divinity: Original Sin 3 will only start once the team catches its breath after the release of Baldur's Gate 3 (that will come on August 3 on PC and September 6 on PS5).
In it [Divinity: Original Sin - ed. note] we built our own universe, so we'll definitely return there at some point. (...) However, first we will complete [Baldur's Gate 3], and then we will take a break, because we will also need to refresh ourselves creatively. You see, 400 developers are putting their heart and soul into this. You use the best of them and their skills in this game. So I can tell you that this is no mean feat," the developer explained.
No doubt this is good news for fans awaiting the next installment of the series, but it should be kept in mind that the release of Divinity: Original Sin 3 is a prospect of at least a few years from now. Therefore, it is worth arming yourself with a lot of patience.
Finally, let us remind you that the first part of Divinity appeared on the market in 2002, and the Original Sin subseries was launched by Larian in 2014. The latter game (as well as the previous installments) received a very positive reception from both gamers and industry journalists.
On the wave of its popularity, the Belgian studio released Divinity: Original Sin II in 2017 - this title, in turn, drew the attention of Wizards of the Coast and opened the way for the developer to the honor of the chance to resurrect the legendary Baldur's Gate.
