Total War: Warhammer 3 Devs With Ambitious Plans for Game Development
The developers of Total War: Warhammer III have talked about their development plans for the game, both for the next DLC and beyond.
More than two years have passed since the release of Total War: Warhammer III. The game continues to be developed and remains highly popular (yesterday's peak activity on Steam reached 26,000 simultaneous players). It's no wonder that the Creative Assembly studio responsible for the project has ambitious plans for the future of this title, which they presented in a new video.
Total War: Warhammer III development direction
The devs want to shape the future of Total War: Warhammer III based on player suggestions. This is more than just empty talk, as it was the act of listening to the fan community that, for instance, resulted in the division of the Thrones of Decay expansion into three parts, enabling us to buy only the elements that we are interested in. In the future, we can expect similar solutions, providing players with greater freedom of choice when purchasing additional content.
- Based on data obtained from player gameplay, the developers found out that people most often play the large Immortal Empires campaign, in which elements from all three games in the series are used. Therefore, the next expansion will focus on expanding this mode.
- Of course, this doesn't imply that the devs will entirely forsake Realms of Chaos, the strategic campaign of Total War: Warhammer III. Developers are currently working on gameplay balance fixes and technical errors. However, we shouldn't expect any major innovations. Realms of Chaos is quite limited and after two years, players know this mode inside out. That's why most of the community is currently playing Immortal Empires, and that's where the developers will mainly focus their attention.
Next expansion for Total War: Warhammer III
The next expansion will center on the Ogres, followers of the Chaos god Khorne, and the Greenskins, a topic that was also discussed in the material.
- First of all, the devs revealed that the new Ogre Lord will be Golfgag Maneater, a character who has been appearing in Games Workshop's games for 41 years (this isn't a surprise, because fans found mentions of him in the game files some time ago). For now, the devs aren't ready to present all the units of this army, but they revealed that among them there will be large beasts known as Thundertusk and Blood Vultures.
- Khorne's army will receive an additional Lord named Skulltaker. When he defeats a powerful rival in a duel, he will adorn his armor with his skull and in this way take over part of the deceased's power, which should provide an interesting variety in the campaign. The new units for this army will include: Mutalith Vortex Beast.
- The Greenskins, or Orcs and Goblins, are the next available faction, which will be expanded in the next expansion. The army will receive an alternate Lord called Gorbad Ironclaw.
- Traditionally, along with the premiere of the paid DLC, a patch with new free content will also be released. For now, the devs aren't ready to provide any details, except that it will include, among others, additional units for Khorne.
The expansion still requires a lot of work, so the developers are currently aiming for a release at the end of this year.
Future plans
The people from Creative Assembly also discussed the vision for the game's development after the next expansion. The devs revealed that future plans include expanding the Norsca faction, Vampires, and followers of the Chaos God Slaanesh.
In the future, the devs would also like to strengthen the Lizardmen faction and incorporate the concept of the geomantic web into the game. This web is a vast matrix of the earth's natural energy that spans the entire Warhammer world.
We remind you that Total War: Warhammer III was released in February 2022 on PC. The game's release was very disappointing, and the community later resented the developers for many solutions. Recently, however, the project has been performing much better. While only 67% of all reviews on Steam since its debut are positive, when considering only those from the last 30 days, 92% of them praise the title from Creative Assembly studio. The current approach of the team to development seems to be working and we hope that this good run will continue.
