Dark and Darker Competitor Gets Demo and Generates Excitement Among Dungeon Crawler Fans
Before Dark and Darker returns to Steam, it is worth taking a closer look at its competitor - the game Dungeonborne. Fans of this type of production can take part in open testing of the alpha version of this title.
As expected, Steam users flocked to test Dungeonborne. According to information on SteamDB, the alpha version of this dungeon crawler was played by 17,096 players at its peak. This is a significant accomplishment, particularly when we consider that we are discussing a game still in the development stage.
Such results are hardly surprising, given that the action RPG in question has been seen from the start as a rival to Dark and Darker, which is waiting for a major comeback on Valve's platform. Like the game of the Ironmace studio, Dungeonborne combines the mechanisms of a first-person action RPG with the rules of online PvPvE games. During the game, players explore dangerous dungeons and fortresses in search of treasures. Furthermore, the developers have ensured a PvP arena where two teams of three can battle each other.
Players' comments on the Dungeonborne subreddit are full of comparisons to DaD. We will also find plenty of compliments for the game by the Mithril Interactive team there. The game is fun no doubt. Enemy, and map design are great, and has a lot of good ideas but it's far behind DaD in a lot of ways - unrealskill.
I can say however for certain that the amount of progress that DBorne has made in the short period between the 2023 playtest and the currently playable demo shows significantly more progress has been made when compared to DaD - FakeSakeWord.
Let us remind you that Dungeonborne is coming only to PCs. The devs haven't yet announced when we can expect the full version of the game.
