Cyberpunk 2077 Already Broke Even
CD Projekt informed that Cyberpunk 2077 has already broke even. The sales success of the game allowed for complete covering of its development and marketing costs. However, good salese did not protect the company from a drop in stock prices.
IN A NUTSHELL
- Cyberpunk 2077 has already paid for all the money spent on its development and marketing.
- The title still holds the first place of the most popular games on Steam.
- Successful launch did not protect CD Projekt's from a significant stock price drop.
CD Projekt informed that it has already started to make money on its latest game, Cyberpunk 2077. This information is not surprising given the very high number of the game's pre-orders and its record popularity.
Such data does not come as a surprise if we take into account that the title was pre-ordered by more than 8 million people, and at its peak, more than a million players were playing it on Steam. At the time of writing this text, Cyberpunk 2077 is still ranked 1st among most popular game on the platform.
However, even good sales results did not prevent the company's stocks from losing value. To a large extent, this may be due to the investors' willingness to cash in the shares at the moment of their highest value. The average ratings of players on Steam (76% positive at the time of writing the text), as well as much better, but not ideal, opinions of the trade press on Metacritic, which currently show an average of 90/100. It should be noted, however, that the above ratings apply to the PC version of the game. The console version of the title currently has one review, in which many of the game's bugs are being pointed out, and it has only been rated at 3.5/10.
It seems that the above report is intended to stabilize the stock market situation of the company. Time will tell what value the company's shares will stop on, however, taking into account the successful launch, that level will not be low.
