As promised, the warmly received roguelike Caves of Qud will actually come out of Early Access this year. Freehold Games and Kitfox Games confirmed the release date of version 1.0 of this production. Early Access will end on December 5th after 15 years of development and nearly 10 years in early access.

  2. Caves of Qud on GOG.com

As is usually the case, the transition to version 1.0 will not just be a change of number and a formal end of early access. Caves of Qud will receive a final story quest, multiple endings and a new tutorial, which is currently being tested as part of the game's beta. The revamped tutorial is meant to be a better introduction to the basics of gameplay. The newest patch also introduces a handful of improvements, including Caves of Qud's settings menu interface.

In addition, Freehold Games has prepared a modest sale in which the game can be purchased for a few dollars less until October 29. Additionally, the offer includes a special edition of the game with a DLC including a new soundtrack and companions previously available only to people who supported the development of Cavers of Qud on the studio's Patreon.

The action of Caves of Qud takes place in a post-apocalyptic science fantasy world, full of salt deserts, containing detailed simulated political systems. At the start of each session, tasks, historical events, and relationships between five random ancient rulers, known as sultans, are generated. An important element of the game is an advanced character creator and combat and exploration use a turn-based system.

Caves of Qud is of course a minor hit, but the creators cannot complain about the reception of their work. Even in Early Access it has collected almost 8 thousand reviews and 95% of them are positive. Let's hope that the debut of version 1.0 and further development of the game (already confirmed by the creators) will attract even more players.
